The I-Speak Forum at the City Hall last July 30 was remarkable. Hiyas Ng Kadayawan 2015 candidates unveiled that they prefer not to wear heels during the competition to present their innate and pure culture.

11 ladies representing 11 ethnic tribes of Davao City were introduced that brought out the best of Davao culture. The tribes include Ata, Bagobo-Tagabawa, Iranun, Ovu-Manobo, Matigsalog, Bagobo-Klata, Maranao, Sama, Kagan, Tausug, and Maguindanaon.

Hiyas ng Kadayawan is headed by its chairperson Al Ryan Alejandre. The pageant aims to unite the tribes and to maintain and uphold their culture and tradition.

According to Alejandre, Hiyas ng Kadayawan 2015 is not a beauty contest. “They said our Kadayawan is very unique because we are representing 11 tribes. They said they cannot unite this many in their places,” he said.

The main event will be held on August 21 at the Davao City Recreation Center (Almendras Gym) at 6PM.
