Davao is experiencing rotational power interruptions from the previous week’s four hour brownout to five hours as Therma South Inc’s (TSI) unit one remains offline according to Davao Light and Power Corporation (DLPC).
“The total supply deficit within the Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) franchise is now at 103 MegaWatts(MW).”
Dabawenyos will now have to bear with up to five hours of rotational power interruptions from the previous week’s four-hour brownouts as Therma South Inc’s (TSI) unit one remains offline.

TSI Unit 1, which generates 130 MegaWatts (MW) net for the Mindanao grid, shut down Wednesday afternoon (April 6) after the 138kv Davao-Toril line of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) tripped at almost the same time. “Shutting down TSI 1 after the NGCP tripped is a safety measure to protect the plant,” said Wilfredo Rodolfo, Aboitiz Power Corporate Communications Manager. TSI Unit with 130 MW net remains in operation, said last week.
Aboitiz Power reported Friday that after conducting an investigation of the baseload plant, they found out that it had a boiler tube leak and will have to undergo a 14-day repair.
The DLPC advisory indicated that the supply-allocation from NPC-PSALM to DLPC continues to decrease due to the lowering water level of major hydropower plants as a result of the El Nino. The water level is no below critical level.
